An 8-month old dachshund patient was brought in the clinic this morning. The patient was lethargic, inappetent, and have been experiencing some vomiting episodes. Upon physical exam, jaundice and petechial hemorrhages were observed. On history taking it was noted that the patient had an exposure to flood with many rodents in the premises. Also, its multivalent vaccine was not updated. The clinic doesn't have a test kit for leptospirosis, however, based on the clinical signs manifested and given its history-- leptospirosis infection was taken into consideration as one of the differential diagnoses.

To pet owners,
Rainy season is around the corner-- a season for flood and lepto infection. Remember, this is ZOONOTIC (infection or disease that is transmissible to humans). SO, PLEASE HAVE YOUR PETS VACCINATED AGAINST LEPTOSPIROSIS AND KEEP THEIR VACCINATION SCHEDULE UP TO DATE. Protect you and your pets from harboring this infection.
