Every day is a day of longing, but today in particular was a Day of Remembrance.
I am transcribing words I wrote in the last chapter of my book.
“There is one person who accompanied me on my Amazon expeditions for over 15 years and to whom I owe a great deal. He is my loyal friend Jorge Lemos, who sadly passed away on August 3, 2025.
Jorge Lemos was one of the oldest discus fishers in the Amazon region. In 2007, the two men crossed paths. In 2008, Vitor Hugo Quaresma invited him to become a partner in Santarem Discus.
In 2008, Jorge Lemos became a partner in Santarem Discus. This partnership lasted until 2018, when Jorge Lemos finally became the sole captain of the Santarem Discus boat and undertook more than 200 expeditions to various locations in the Amazon region.
Adventurer Vitor Hugo Quaresma and fisherman Jorge Lemos grew together to form a great team. They loved working side by side and were very successful for many years. Lemos was a role model as a hard worker and an important part of the history of the Santarem Discus company.
Jorge Lemos was a man of tremendous courage who handled alligators as one would normally handle a tame pet. At the same time, Lemos had a great sense of humor. There was no one who could resist laughing in his presence, such was his brilliant sense of humor.
There are hundreds of experiences, great moments, and special moments that have connected Jorge Lemos and Vitor Hugo Quaresma and will always remain present. Their friendship was one of the milestones in Vitor Hugo Quaresma‘s life that will never be forgotten.
Vitor Hugo Quaresma dedicates this book to Jorge Lemos: „See you soon, my friend. I send you a hug from here, wherever you may be.“
