Hemorrhagic Septicemia (HS) is a fast-moving, deadly bacterial disease that affects cattle and water buffalo. It is caused by Pasteurella multocida. The illness brings high fever, swelling in the throat, trouble breathing, and often death within 24 hours. It spreads rapidly in warm and wet weather.
Signs of Disease
High fever up to 107°F (41.5°C)
Thick swelling on the throat and neck
Heavy drooling and runny nose
Trouble breathing with a loud sound
Sudden death within 12 to 24 hours

Causes and Spread
Caused by specific types of Pasteurella multocida bacteria.
Spread by breathing in or eating the germ from sick animals or dirty water.
Bad weather, monsoon season, or stress make animals get sick easier.

Prevention and Care
Give yearly vaccines before the rainy season starts.
Use strong antibiotics fast when signs first start.
Keep sick animals away from the healthy herd.

A compound stomach (found in ruminants like cows, sheep, and goats) houses a dense, specialized microbial ecosystem in its first chambers, primarily the rumen and reticulum that ferments tough plant fibers like cellulose.

This community includes anaerobic bacteria, protozoa, fungi, archaea, and viruses.

Bacteria: The most numerous group; key genera include Ruminococcus (cellulolytic), Prevotella (saccharolytic/protein breakdown), and Fibrobacter, which break down complex carbohydrates, starches, and fiber into volatile fatty acids (VFAs).

Anaerobic Fungi: Represent up to 10% of microbial biomass; genera like Neocallimastigaceae physically pe*****te plant tissues with rhizoids to help fragment rigid cell walls.

Ciliate Protozoa: Large single-celled eukaryotes (e.g., Entodinium, Metadinium) that engulf starch granules and regulate bacterial populations.

Methanogenic Archaea: Microbes responsible for producing methane gas as a byproduct of hydrogen and carbon dioxide metabolism during fermentation.

Bacteriophages & Viruses: Regulate bacterial and archaeal turnover in the chamber fluid.

Milk production is a natural bond between a mother and her young.
Hormones like oxytocin trigger milk letdown when the calf suckles. This amazing process combines deep animal instinct with precise biological science to feed and protect the newborn.

The Hormonal Trigger
Oxytocin release: Nursing or touch sends signals to the brain.
Milk ejection: This hormone makes tiny muscles around milk glands squeeze.
Calf cues: Bumping the udder helps the mother release more milk.

Maternal Instinct and Bonding
Scent recognition: The mother knows her calf by smell and sound.
Calmer state: Nursing lowers stress and builds love between them.
Protection drive: Hormones make the mother alert and ready to guard her young.

To calculate cattle weight without a scale, use a flexible tape measure to find the animal's heart girth (chest circumference right behind the front legs) and body length (from the point of the shoulder to the pin bone/tail head). Apply the standard formula: (Heart Girth × Heart Girth × Body Length) ÷ 300 = Weight in pounds.

Sutures are medical threads used to close wounds and help healing. They are split into two main groups: absorbable (which dissolve inside the body) and non-absorbable (which stay permanently or must be removed).

International Lion Day — World Lion Day
World Lion Day is celebrated every year on August 10 to raise global awareness about the conservation of lions and the urgent need to protect them from declining populations, habitat loss, and exploitation.
Lions are listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, with around 23,000 mature individuals left, a 30–43% decline since 2001.

Milk production in cattle is driven by a complex cycle of anatomical structures and hormonal triggers. The process relies on the development of the udder's alveoli, which extract nutrients from an immense volume of blood, and is regulated by key hormones like prolactin for synthesis and oxytocin for milk ejection. A standard dairy cycle lasts about 305 days, followed by a 60-day dry recovery period.
