Peshawar Zoo had the honour of welcoming Syed Habib Ul Hassan Gillani, Additional Secretary, Climate Change, Forest, Environment & Wildlife Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, accompanied by Mr. Ayaz Khan, Project Director Upscaling Green Pakistan Programme (UGPP) – Wildlife Component, along with Mr. Shakeel Ahmad and Mr. Imad Uddin, Deputy Directors UGPP.
The honourable guest was warmly received by the Director Peshawar Zoo and were given a detailed briefing regarding the physical and financial progress of the ongoing development project and zoo operations. During the visit, he visited various sections of the zoo including the museum, aquarium, animal enclosures, veterinary facilities, and visitor management areas.
He was comprehensively briefed on captive animal upkeep, seasonal management, husbandry practices, veterinary care, visitor facilitation measures, and overall zoo management operations. The honourable Additional Secretary expressed keen interest in the welfare and management of captive wildlife and highly appreciated the state-of-the-art, well-equipped veterinary hospital maintained at Peshawar Zoo.
To symbolize the collective commitment towards a greener and sustainable Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, an Araucaria plant was also planted during the visit. At the conclusion of the visit, the distinguished guest was presented with a souvenir and a wildlife painting by the zoo administration.
On this occasion, a certificate of appreciation was presented to Mr. Zia Uddin, Head Wildlife Watcher, for securing 1st position in the 9th Mandatory Forester/Head Watcher Course at the Thai Forest School, where he was awarded a Gold Medal for his outstanding performance.

A significant day at Peshawar Zoo! 🌿🐾

The Secretary for Climate Change, Environment, Forestry and Wildlife Mr. Junaid Khan, accompanied by the Chief Conservator Wildlife Dr. Mohsin Farooque paid an official visit today to review the zoo’s animal welfare standards, conservation practices and overall management.

During the visit, the Secretary & Chief Conservator Wildlife explored key facilities including the Veterinary Hospital, Natural History Museum, Auditorium and Fish Aquarium, while also receiving detailed briefings from the administrative and veterinary teams on ongoing conservation efforts and future development initiatives aimed visitor experience.

In a meaningful step towards environmental sustainability, the Secretary and the Chief Conservator Wildlife also participated in a tree plantation activity within the zoo premises, symbolizing their commitment to a greener and healthier ecosystem.

A productive meeting with the Director highlighted the zoo’s long term vision for sustainable growth, improved visitor experience, and biodiversity conservation and modern upgrades.

The Secretary appreciated the dedicated efforts of the zoo administration in ensuring high standards of animal care and environmental responsibility, recognizing Peshawar Zoo as a vital hub for education, conservation, and community engagement. 🌍✨
