A lot of farmers chase sexed semen, regardless of whether the animal is a heifer or in milking, as it increases the chances of a female calf.
High-producing cows, once in milking, are very challenging to reproduce, it's a known fact. It could be related to many factors such as stress, poor fertility, environment, nutrition, BCS, etc.
Another point to highlight is, that 90% of small farmers in Pakistan use commercial feed (wanda). Most of the time, this feed is high in toxin ingredients.
In both scenarios, you are going to face challenges with conception rates.
We have implemented a plan and strategy to only use sexed semen in heifers, and aim to get 100% conception rates. However, once in milking, only go with conventional semen, and then use a bull if required.
We are now in January and in most parts of Pakistan, the breeding season will end in mid-April, so there is not much time left - let's say, that you have 2-3 more chances remaining from today.
A word of advice to all farmers, stop chasing sexed semen for milking cows, as once the breeding season is over, they are very difficult to conceive, and you will lose milk drastically the moment summer hits. If you lose milk, it will affect your ROI and farm economics.
Focus on getting them to conceive before the breeding window closes, this is your chance!
I would also recommend you go double conventional doses and also have a good genetic bull present at your farm.
If animals are repeating:
1. Get them checked by an ultrasound person immediately, so you can diagnose whatever the issue is
2. Review your AI technician persons performance
3. Check your nutrition and minerals being used (will cover this soon)
4. Check for semen motility
5. Review animals BCS
Best wishes to everyone, make the most of the time we have remaining, and stop chasing sexed for milking cows.
