Polish are ornamental chickens that have been known as a pure breed since the 16th Century. They are also known for their "hairdos"- they have mops of feathers on top their heads. In some varieties, this crest of feathers contrasts in color with the rest of the bird's plumage. They also have a small v- comb and large nostrils typical of crested breeds. Polish lay white eggs and are non-sitters. Average mature weight: roosters 6 lbs., hen 41/2 lbs.

Buff laced polish hens

These very rare birds are a rich golden buff, each feather neatly laced with creamy white, and with slate blue shanks and toes. The flowing crests and sprightly carriage make them one of the most prized varieties anyone interested in beauty and unusual poultry can own. They are easy to handle, layers of white eggs, practically non-setters. There are two varieties, Bearded (as in picture) and Non-Bearded, but we do not list these separately and chicks ordered will usually include some of both. Baby chicks are a creamy buff color with a darker tan mark over each eye.
