WHY YOUR PET’S EYES SHOULD BE CHECKED BY A VET

Do you ask online groups for advice about your pet’s eye condition? While some suggestions may help, many people quickly recommend eye drops as if they work for every case. Unfortunately, using the wrong medication can sometimes make the problem worse.

This kitten was brought to the clinic with a severe eye infection that could no longer be treated, and its right eye had to be removed to prevent further complications. At only one month old and weighing just 300 grams, the kitten successfully underwent surgery and recovered well.

Today, the kitten is healthy, active, and back at the clinic for vaccinations, now living comfortably with one eye. Maraming salamat po sa magaling at mapagpasensyang pet owner! 🩵

UMBILICAL HERNIA (Luslos sa Pusod)

Alam nyo ba na ang simpleng umbilical hernia ay pwedeng magdulot ng seryosong komplikasyon sa alagang a*o at pusa?

This is a case of a 4-month-old kitten that had a fight, causing the hernia to rupture. Pagdating sa clinic, may amoy na at lumalabas na nana.

After surgical repair, 3 days of confinement, and week long medication at home, the kitten recovered well.

If you encounter the same situation, balutan agad ng malinis na gauze o tela ang exposed tissue and bring your pet immediately to the clinic. This can greatly improve surgical success and prevent life-threatening complications like peritonitis.

Euthanasia to healthy Peppa? 🐕

Peppa came to the clinic with a bloated, pregnant-like belly caused by ascites secondary to Ehrlichia infection. Ito na nga, tick-borne diseases don’t always look the same. Kaya importante ang laboratory tests. Ang hirap kaya mag diagnose when you are working with a patient na hinde nagsasalita. 😁

She also had very pale gums and growing weakness. On her first visit, we drained over 4L of abdominal fluid. A week later, it returned and continued to do so despite treatment. It was discouraging, and at one point, euthanasia was on the table.

But her owner stayed positive. With updated labs, consistent care and a revised treatment plan, Peppa slowly improved. After more than a month, she’s now bright, active, and back to her “sexy belly” and happy self.

Successful outcomes often depend on owner cooperation. In the Philippines, ticks are present year-round kaya bigyan po natin ng regular tick and flea tablet ang ating mga a*o to avoid serious illness and costly treatment.

And lastly, Aspins, Askals, mongrels, whatever breed they are, every dog deserves protection and care.

POUND FOR POUND’S FIRST OUTREACH SUPPORT

Daghang salamat, gracias, magsukul, maraming salamat po, our sincere thanks to the pet owners and donors who supported this small initiative for the adoptable pets at the City Pound.🤟🏽

We also thank our clinic’s vets and staff for coordinating the collection and procurement of donated materials, and the City Pound team and the entire Office of the City Veterinarian for their guidance in making this first vet drive possible. This is just the start of a long-term partnership.

Today, we vaccinated 7 puppies with DHPPi + L4 (8-in-1), dewormed 18 puppies, and donated antiparasitics, multivitamins, and 4 bags of dog and cat food for daily use.

We hope this encourages more Zamboangueños to recognize that all pets, regardless of breed, deserve proper care and attention. Small efforts, when combined, can create meaningful impact.

The City Veterinarian also invites responsible adopters to give City Pound animals a forever home and has committed to prioritizing these pets for future neutering programs. Aspins and Puspins thrive in the Philippines, let’s help them live the lives they deserve.

POST-GROOMING SKIN INFECTION

Hello, pet parents in ZC.

Grooming can be a rewarding experience for pets but it also carries risks if proper hygiene isn’t maintained. Many pets that come in for professional grooming already have underlying skin conditions caused by bacteria, yeast, fungi, or parasites like ticks, fleas, and mites. When healthy pets are groomed with improperly sanitized tools, infections can spread.

We’ve treated several cases (including that in the photo) of fungal and mite infections where owners suspect exposure from grooming facilities.

To all groomers, linisin at isanitize ng tama ang mga gunting, razor, towels, and even tables. This is not meant to criticize, but to raise awareness and promote safer practices for the welfare of every pet.

POUND for POUND

We’re excited to launch our Pound for Pound charity box, our small way of inviting fellow pet lovers to share blessings with the dogs and cats in the City Pound.

Not everyone can adopt, but even the smallest donation can help give these animals a second chance.

Many still overlook Aspins and Puspins in favor of “preferred breeds,” leaving our native companions behind. Some are adopted, yet never truly cared for. They deserve more love, dignity, and a fair chance at a better life.

Through everyone’s help, we aim to provide not just daily food, but also vaccines, vitamins, and preventive care that help them stay healthy and more adoptable while they wait for their future families.

If we each do a little, we can do a lot.
Let’s give them hope.

CDP IN TAWI-TAWI

After so many invites from our clients, we finally made time to experience the beauty of Tawi-Tawi last weekend… and it did not disappoint.

Four amazing days at Bihing Tahik Resort, soaking up the sun and coral views, hiking Bud Bongao with some playful long-tailed macaques, enjoying no-scale seafood shopping at Batu-Batu in Panglima Sugala , and a quick trip to Sangay Siapo.

It was the perfect reset after our busy clinic days at ang saya ng team na nakapag recharge kami kahit minsan lang.

Next time, maybe it’s more than a vacation… how about a mini vet mission for the island’s pets? Ok ba?🤔

WE ADOPTED A PUPPY FROM THE POUND

In a society where owning expensive dog breeds has become a status symbol, many native and mixed-breed dogs are often left behind. As a clinic, naniniwala kami sa because every pet deserves a loving home.

All animals have needs that deserve to be met. Lahat sila kailangan ng aruga, tamang nutrisyon, at sapat na atensyon. This little puppy will now stay with us, together with the two stray cats we adopted last year. Yay! 😁

We hope this serves as a sign to consider giving pound animals a second chance, instead of supporting irresponsible breeders who exploit animals through puppy or kitten mills.

Maraming salamat po sa City Pound team, especially kay Sir JP, for your assistance and for taking care of these animals.

If you’re planning to adopt a pet, you may visit their office in San Roque. If adoption isn’t possible, you can still help by donating pet food, treats, or toys. Malaking bagay na po ‘yun while they wait for their forever homes. Sad reality man, but sometimes kulang at delayed ang supply, especially with the number of abandoned animals.

We’re not here to blame, at naniniwala lang kami that if each of us does a little, together we can do a lot.

We removed 5 liters of abdominal fluid from this brave girl as she battles Anaplasmosis and heartworm disease 🫣
