🐶 Does your dog eat things that AREN’T food? That could be a condition called PICA.
Pica is the habit of eating non-food items such as:
🧦 Socks
🪨 Stones
🧻 Tissue or plastic
🪵 Wood
🧸 Toys
🐾 Even soil or f***s
While some dogs may seem playful or curious, pica can become dangerous and may lead to:
⚠️ Vomiting
⚠️ Diarrhea
⚠️ Choking
⚠️ Intestinal blockage
⚠️ Emergency surgery
Possible causes include:
• Boredom or anxiety
• Nutritional deficiencies
• Teething in puppies
• Behavioral problems
• Underlying medical conditions
🚨 Ali here recently underwent surgical removal of a foreign body after vomiting blood due to ingestion of a non-food object and currently on her way to recovery. Cases like this remind us that pica is not “just a bad habit” it can become life-threatening.
🚨 If your dog repeatedly eats non-food objects, don’t ignore it. Early veterinary consultation can help prevent serious complications.
