The biggest shift with small dogs happened when I stopped focusing only on commands and started reading body language. A play bow is an invitation. Relaxed posture is trust. Alert stance is information gathering. A tense body is a request: “Please give me space.” ✨

Maltese dogs are expressive, but subtle. Tail wagging doesn’t always mean “happy,” and stillness doesn’t always mean “calm.” Look at the whole picture—ears, eyes, mouth, weight shift, and how quickly they recover after a surprise. That’s where you’ll find the truth. 👀🐾

Try this today: watch your Maltese for one full minute with no phone. Reward calm choices, end play before overstimulation, and let them opt out. Positive training is basically fluent communication. 🎾❤️
