Our home has truly been gloomy the past few weeks. Just as Gourdo's ashes came home, we lost Samantha 😔

She stopped eating on her own yesterday but still took to eating from a syringe. I was able to syringe feed her until before bed time so i had hope that she'll pull through, but she didn't make it through the night. I planned to bring her to the vet today, but it was too late.

We couldn't really tell what caused her immediate decline. She was laready perky after her trip to the vet a few days ago and even after getting dewormed, there were no parasites in her litterbox which was supposed to be a good sign. Her p**p is well formed, she finished her meals, and she played. She was still talkative and climbed her playpen until last Monday. And then just suddenly yesterday she couldn't eat or open her eyes anymore eventho i regularly clean her 😔

We're so sorry, Samantha. We really did everything we could do to help you. We thought you were doing okay because you were playful, but maybe you just wanted to enjoy your remaining time.

No more pain, baby. Rest well.

We will miss this handsome boy so much 🥺 We will miss how sweet he was and how much he loved cuddles, he was a steady presence and a constant companion during many or our rescuing and fostering anxieties. We will miss how friendly he was towards our print shop's customers and often played with those who had to wait at our front door. We will miss his annoyed looks whenever we tried to tease him and play with him.

Thank you so much to everyone who helped Gourdo during his last battle. The rest of his funds went towards his aquamation.

Thank you so much to Kapon Ampon for letting us adopt Gourdo years ago. He was the best gift we could ever receive during the bleaker days of the pandemic.

Gourdo sadly passed away last night. I was still giving him medicine when he started having a seizure- it was short. I wanted to rush to an ER vet, but it was so fast that i barely got to type a message to the ER vet's viber 😔 He was just quietly lying down taking his medicine, there were no signs that a seizure was starting.

From my "favorite community cat" to becoming our family's very first cat, Gourdo is the cat that made it possible for us to start rescuing and fostering. Growing up, i always had dogs, rabbits, or hamsters, but i was never allowed to have cats; my grandmother didn't like cats for whatever reason she had back then. Gourdo went up for adoption coincidentally just as my grandmother became bedridden. Because my mom grew up being taught the same, she was delighted when it turned out that cats weren't as bad as pets as my grandmother painted them to be. And Gourdo just happened to be such a well-behaved and smart cat that we were convinced to relearn what were previously made to believe. So when Ate Martha asked us to foster temporarily, mom said yes, and that's exactly when Pepper's Paw Friends began. Without Gourdo, we wouldn't have fostered or rescued 🥺.

Gourdo was the best first cat that opened our home to many more rescues, fosters, and foster fails.

To the most handsome, behaved, sweetest, most loving cat: thank you for giving us 5 years of your life, Gourdo. We'll miss you so much. Pepper's Paw Friends is yours and your Ate Pepper's legacy and we'll do what we can to continue advocating for community cats like you.

Update on Gourdo 💙

His final diagnosis is a bad bacterial infestation in his stomach. His viral test came out negative and his CBC results all pointed to bacterial infection. Until now, his stomach rejects food and he can only eat around 1ml of food or less before vomiting 😔 Sadly, he didn't receive anymore donations and he was only left with 1,300pesos from funds which wasn't near enough for his final vet bill. We had no choice but to discharge him as his medications are also pricey 😥

We'll do our best so he could stay hydrated without an IV drip. We hope all goes well for Gourdo 🥺 Allegedly, the bacteria is caused by something he may have consumed outdoors without us knowing. As an indoor/outdoor cat, the vet says he isn't able to build immunity unlike purely outdoor cats and so Gourdo is just as sensitive as an indoor cat. It is strongly adviced now that Gourdo stays indoors 24/7 so we'll be working on his bullying once he regains his strength 😅 Yes, he's a big bully when you don't let him go outside- slaps any cat that gets a foot close to him and nags his humans or trips our feet 😅

It took a while to bring Samantha to the vet because she didn't receive donations, but we're so thankful that she finally had her much needed vet trip today. Thank you so much, Ate Melissa, for helping Samantha 💖

We were expecting she'll get tested for viruses because of her nasal discharge, but the vet opted to deworm her first. The vet said her inflammed eye could be caused by worms, so we'll see how it goes from here. Her mange can be treated by Advocate, but we have to wait until she's four months old or at least already weights a kilo.

In case she vomits blood, she'll need to be confined immediately. But if all goes well, her next vet visit is on August 26 for her second deworm. The vet also says she's not allowed to roam around the house until she gets vaccinated so she'll be in her cage for a lot longer 🥺

He still wouldn't eat on his own. We're actually just waiting for him to start eating so we can bring him home 🥺 He gets really spicy with his hoomans because he's not wary of us so he'll definitely have trouble keeping his IV intact 😥 Being with the vet gives him a better chance to recover faster because at least he behaves with them.

Sadly, he didn't receive any additional donations today and his budget is only 4,300 pesos. We already settled 3,000 pesos to see if we have to decide to discharge him tomorrow despite not having any progress 🥺 But if he could still receive donations until tomorrow morning, we will keep him confined for a better chance to recover.

His remaining budget is 1,300 pesos as of tonight. His expected expenses are:
Confinement: 1,500 pesos (per day)
CBC: 1,800
Take home medications: tba

Please help Gourdo. We really do want him to get the best chance we could provide. Gourdo is our first adopted cat and the cat that convinced us to start rescuing and advocating for the community cats in our neighborhood. Any amount you can spare is greatly appreciated.

Update on Gourdo 💙

He still wouldn't eat on his own so he has to be force fed. The vet still recommends Gourdo to stay confined until he's eating on his own. He still has diarrhea and really bad nasal discharge. There's no improvements despite the medications 😔.

Thank you so much to everyone who continue to help Gourdo. Today, he received another 1,000 pesos from someone we're not familiar with, we only saw their message "for Gourdo" attached on the gcash notification. But still, thank you so much 🥺❤️.

Thank you so much to our friends who donated for Gourdo ❤️

He's still confined because he has yet to eat. We also couldn't give him blankets since he has diarrhea- which we weren't aware of because he hid himself back here in the house (tho luckily it seems he didn't p**p outside of the litter box) 🥺 The vet couldn't tell how much longer Gourdo needs to be confined, but we hope he can continue receiving help for his vet bill.

I also attached his CBC and viral test results from yesterday. I thought it fell from my small pocket yesterday since it started raining and I didn't have anything with me, not even an umbrella or a wallet because i rushed Gourdo out of the house 🙃 good thing i put the paper in my phone case. Murphy's Law really hit bad yesterday.

So far, Gourdo already received 3,300 pesos. Please continue helping Gourdo 🥺 He'll get another CBC once he starts eating again to see if his blood values improved. This is his expected bill:
