IN PHOTOS: Tacloban City Veterinary Office Chief Veterinarian Dr. Eunice Jumadiao Alcantara, in separate interviews with three radio stations, namely, DYVL, RMN, and Bombo, shared updates on the veterinary office's ongoing anti-rabies and responsible pet ownership campaigns on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. The official likewise announced the upcoming activities of the office for the Rabies Awareness Month this March.

For the anti-rabies mass vaccination activity, the CVO head reported that it has been intensified in city barangays, along with information, education, and communication campaigns in schools. Accordingly, this year's mass vaccination target is 19,000, and for the whole month of March, Area 7 barangays have been scheduled for the free inoculation drive because of their high dog population.

With regard to the construction of the new dog pound facility, Dr. Alcantara said that the 1st phase construction of the facility worth 11 million is currently underway. Once construction is completed, the facility will be known as the Animal Shelter and Rabies Observation Facility, which will be a showcase of the veterinary office's animal control program and other basic services.

The head of the CVO also highlighted the basic veterinary services that are offered there every day from 8:00 a.m. to Friday. until 5:00 p.m. procedures include deworming, administering vitamins and medicines, rabies vaccinations, and animal health examinations

Meanwhile, as a culminating activity to the Rabies Awareness Month, the CVO will be spearheading a Mass Neuter Activity in Brgy. San Roque.

The city veterinarian concluded by stressing the value of responsible pet ownership in advancing the welfare of domesticated animals.
