Today, our team had the wonderful opportunity to provide home veterinary services to an amazing local animal shelter! 💙

We conducted routine check-ups, administered anti-rabies vaccinations, provided deworming treatments, and gave core vaccines to a diverse group of rescued and farm animals including dogs, cats, pigs, goats, sheep, and cows 🐶🐱🐷🐐🐑🐄. It was a fulfilling day focused on ensuring the health and safety of every animal under their care.

Meet Pepper, our PYOMETRA case.

Pyometra in dogs is a serious and potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus. It occurs in unspayed female dogs and is characterized by the uterus filling with pus and bacteria. This condition can lead to severe illness and even death if left untreated.

Is an infection in the uterus (metritis) and considered a serious and life threatening condition that must be treated quickly and aggressively. It is reported primarily in older female dogs 5 years old above, 4–6 wk. after estrus or 'heat'.

Diagnostic tests like Ultrasound, X-ray (radiograph), blood test can help confirm the diagnosis. Surgery (ovariohysterectomy/spaying) is the treatment of choice.

You can discuss this with your veterinarian on how to prevent this kind of infection. If you suspect that your pet may have pyometra contact your veterinarian immediately.
