EMERGENCY: My Dog Ate a Rat! 😱 🐶🐭

This poor pup got a hold of a rat—and luckily, their owner acted fast! 💨 At the clinic, we immediately induced vomiting to remove the rodent before it could cause harm.

Why is eating a rat dangerous for dogs?
• Rats may carry leptospirosis, toxoplasmosis, or salmonella
• Risk of rat bait (poison) ingestion, especially if the rat had ingested any
• Choking or intestinal blockage
• Potential risk for parasites

Vomiting was induced within the critical safety window. Prompt care can prevent serious illness or even death.

Eye enucleation is the surgical removal of one or both eyes. It’s done when the eye is too damaged, painful, or diseased to be saved.

Why Is Eye Removal Necessary?

In cases like:
• Severe trauma (accidents, fights)
• Glaucoma
• Untreatable eye infections
• Cancer in or around the eye
• Chronic inflammation
• Eye rupture

Will My Pet Be Okay with One Eye?

Yes! Pets adapt incredibly well—even with one or no eyes. They rely more on smell, hearing, and memory than sight.

Chelsea’s case of open-type pyometra

❓ What is Pyometra?

Pyometra is a serious uterine infection that occurs in unspayed female dogs, usually middle-aged or older. It happens due to hormonal changes and bacterial infection after a heat cycle.

There are two types:
• Open pyometra: Pus drains from the v***a.
• Closed pyometra: No discharge — much more dangerous because pus is trapped inside

💉 Treatment Options

The only effective treatment is usually:
✅ Emergency Surgery – Spaying (removing the infected uterus and ovaries)
