๐’๐ฉ๐š๐ฒ๐ข๐ง๐  in dogs is a surgical procedure to sterilize female dogs, meaning they can no longer become pregnant or go into heat. The procedure is called an ๐จ๐ฏ๐š๐ซ๐ข๐จ๐ก๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฒ, where the veterinarian removes the dogโ€™s ovaries and uterus under general anesthesia.

Why Spay Your Dog?

1. Health Benefits
โœ”๏ธ Reduces risk of cancers: Eliminates the risk of uterine cancer and significantly lowers the risk of mammary (breast) cancerโ€”especially if done before the first heat.
โœ”๏ธ Prevents pyometra: A life-threatening uterine infection common in older, unspayed females.

2. Behavioral Benefits
โœ”๏ธ Eliminates heat cycles: No more bleeding, yowling, or attracting male dogs.
โœ”๏ธ May reduce roaming behavior and hormone-driven aggression.

3. Population Control
โœ”๏ธ Prevents unwanted litters and reduces the number of dogs in shelters.

Ehrlichiosis in dogs is a serious tick-borne disease caused primarily by the bacterium Ehrlichia canis. It infects white blood cells and is transmitted through the brown dog tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineus), although other Ehrlichia species can infect dogs as well.

๐Ÿฆ  Causes
โ€ข Mainly caused by Ehrlichia canis

๐Ÿ• Transmission
โ€ข Spread through the bite of infected ticks
โ€ข Ticks must be attached for several hours to transmit the bacteria

๐Ÿ“… Stages of Disease
1. Acute phase (1โ€“3 weeks after infection):
โ€ข Fever
โ€ข Lethargy
โ€ข Loss of appetite
โ€ข Swollen lymph nodes
โ€ข Bleeding disorders (nosebleeds, bruising)
2. Subclinical phase:
โ€ข Dog appears normal but the organism persists
โ€ข Can last months or years
3. Chronic phase:
โ€ข Severe illness
โ€ข Anemia
โ€ข Weight loss
โ€ข Neurological signs
โ€ข Bone marrow suppression
โ€ข Can be fatal if untreated

It is caused by the canine parvovirus (CPV) and targets rapidly dividing cells, particularly in the intestines, and bone marrow.

๐Ÿ“Š ๐–๐ก๐จ ๐ˆ๐ฌ ๐š๐ญ ๐‘๐ข๐ฌ๐ค?
~Puppies between 6 weeks and 6 months old are at highest risk.
~Unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated dogs

๐Ÿงฌ ๐‡๐จ๐ฐ ๐ˆ๐ญ ๐’๐ฉ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐๐ฌ
~F***l-oral route: Ingesting the virus from contaminated f***s, soil, food, water, or objects (shoes, crates, etc.)
~Indirect contact: Virus can be carried on hands, clothes, or surfaces.

โš ๏ธ ๐’๐ฒ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ญ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฌ
Usually begin 3โ€“7 days after exposure:
โ€ข Severe vomiting
โ€ข Profuse, bloody diarrhea
โ€ข Lethargy
โ€ข Loss of appetite
โ€ข Fever or hypothermia
โ€ข Dehydration (from vomiting and diarrhea)
โ€ข Abdominal pain and bloating

๐Ÿ’‰ ๐“๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ญ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ
There is no cure for parvoโ€”treatment is supportive and aimed at helping the dog survive the infection:
โ€ข Hospitalization is often required
โ€ข IV fluids to combat dehydration
โ€ข Anti-nausea medications
โ€ข Antibiotics to prevent or treat secondary bacterial infections
โ€ข Nutritional support
โ€ข Isolation to prevent spread

โ€ข Vaccination is the most effective prevention!

๐‚๐š๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ž ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ is a highly contagious and serious viral disease affecting dogs and other animals. Canine distemper affects multiple body systems: respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous.

Early signs includes fever, Nasal and eye discharge (thick, yellowish), Coughing, Lethargy, Loss of appetite, Vomiting and diarrhea.

Advanced signs (especially neurological): Seizures (chewing gum fits), Muscle twitching, Head tilt, Circling, Partial or complete paralysis, Thickening of footpads (โ€œhard pad diseaseโ€)

There is no cure for the virus itself โ€” treatment is supportive: IV fluids for dehydration, Anti-nausea and anti-diarrheal meds, Antibiotics (to treat secondary bacterial infections), Anti-seizure medications if neurological symptoms devel

Vaccination is key to prevent this disease!
Puppies usually get vaccinated starting at 6โ€“8 weeks, with boosters every few weeks until 16 weeks of age. Adults should receive regular boosters as recommended by the vet.
