San Fabian, Pangasinan โ€“ In observance of Anti-Rabies Awareness Month, AMD Pets and Vets Animal Clinic, led by Dr. Allen Mae M. Doctolero, is launching a Free Anti-Rabies Vaccination Drive to help curb the spread of rabies and promote responsible pet ownership.

Rabies, a highly fatal but preventable disease, poses serious risks to both human and animal health. According to Dr. Doctolero, routine vaccination is the most effective way to protect pets and prevent outbreaks. "Once symptoms appear, rabies has no cure or treatment, making prevention through vaccination essential," she emphasized.

As part of this initiative, the clinic will not only administer free rabies shots but will also distribute informational brochures and flyers to educate pet owners about the disease, its dangers, and the importance of spaying/neutering in controlling the pet population.

Veterinarians play a key role in rabies eradication, ensuring safer communities through awareness campaigns and animal control programs. Dr. Doctolero encourages all pet owners to take advantage of this free service and join the fight against rabies.

Meet ๐™‡๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™–, our adorable British Shorthair cat patient!
She was brought in on February 3rd with a primary concern of excessive salivation, a common sign of discomfort, and a reduced appetite. Upon oral examination, we found that Luna had inflamed gums, noticeable sores, and an abscess on the left side. She also had halitosis (bad breath). These symptoms are indicative of ๐™๐™š๐™ก๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™š ๐™‚๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ๐™ž๐™ซ๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™จ, which is the inflammation of the gums in cats, often caused by the accumulation of dental plaque and tartar. This buildup harbors bacteria that irritate the gum tissue, leading to inflammation. Other contributing factors include diet, age, immune system health, and breed predisposition.

To assess her condition further, the attending veterinarian conducted a CBC (complete blood count). For treatment, we started Luna on a course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications to address the gingivitis. Additionally, we provided supplements based on her lab results to support her overall health, along with a dental management plan to alleviate gum irritation and promote healing.

After a few days of treatment, Lunaโ€™s appetite returned, and the inflammation began to subside. By the end of the week, she was ready for a dental prophylaxis procedure, which aimed to clean her teeth, prevent further issues, and ensure proper healing of her gums.

Although we donโ€™t have a picture of Lunaโ€™s gums from her first visit, the improvement is still clear from the descriptions versus the pictures.

The owner just informed us that Luna is doing much better now, with a healthy, shiny smile. ๐Ÿ’ž Regular dental care is just as important for our feline friends as it is for us. Fortunately, Luna's owner brought her in right away, preventing the situation from worsening.
