So much has already been said about the case of Ghostβthe cat that was mauled by three Siberian Huskies. Hate has been directed at the owner, who, to many, has shown little remorse or sensitivity, and has failed to demonstrate responsibility toward the animals in his care.
The ownerβs identity has since been revealed through online efforts. Neighbors, some speaking anonymously, have shared insights about his behavior, and there are reports that people have even reached out to his employer to demand accountability. I also understand that Cats of McKinley intends to file chargesβand they should. This needs to be pursued properly, especially if these huskies have reportedly been attacking community cats for years without preventive action from the owner.
But beyond this case, we need to ask: what do we do moving forward? Where do we go from hereβespecially as cat lovers and advocates?
To our followers: you know that we care for community cats, not just in Cubao but wherever help is needed. Whenever we see dogs near these catsβwhether accompanied by owners or strayβwe stay alert. We make sure that as they pass, no harm comes to either animal. We even remind dog owners to be mindful, letting them know there are cats nearbyβand this simple act often works. Weβve never encountered an incident like this because vigilance matters.
So if you happen to pass by areas where community cats live, please take a moment to be aware. Look around, assess any potential risks, and be their guardian, even just for a few minutes.
This isnβt about hateβitβs about accountability, compassion, and shared responsibility.

Some lives pass quietly, without ever asking for much. A safe corner to rest. A familiar street to return to. A world that does not harm them.
GHOST was one of them.
In the spaces we share with animals, every action we take carries weight. The way we walk our dogs. The way we stay present. The way we choose to act in moments that seem small, but are not. Because for animals who depend on us to move safely through our world, those moments can mean everything.
Community cats live among us, trusting that the spaces they know will not suddenly turn dangerous. They rely on a balance we are responsible for keeping. When that balance is broken, it is often them who pay the price.
This is not about blame. It is about awareness. About understanding that care extends beyond the animals we call our own.
Responsibility does not end at ownership. It shows in how we prevent harm before it happens. In how we choose caution, control, and respect in shared spaces.
GHOST'S life mattered. And so does every other life that quietly exists alongside us.
Let this be more than a story we feel sad about for a moment. Let it change how we act.
Keep your dogs on a leash. Stay alert in shared spaces. Do not bring them out if you cannot control them. These are not small choices, they are the difference between safety and harm.
Speak up when you see risk. Remind others, even when it feels uncomfortable. Protect not just your own pets, but the lives around you that have no one to advocate for them in that moment.
Because one moment of inattention is all it takes. And for animals like Ghost, there is no second chance.
Let this be the point where we do better. Not later. Not next time. Now.
Because safety is something we create for each other. And it begins with us.
