Unconventional Egg Incubation π₯π¦
Did you know that you can incubate reptile eggs with a variety of media? Water Crystals? Egg trays?
The common practice used in egg incubation is placing the egg on top of moist perlite or vermiculite (typically a 1:1 ratio with water).
This setup has been proven and tested for many years by many keepers all around the world.
So "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"? Right?
Let's talk about the issues of the old school setup. Placing the egg on the substrate can cause molds if the substrate is not clean. Putting too much water in the media can drown the eggs, and not having enough water will cause the eggs to dry up.
Placing the eggs on the egg tray can fix all those problems. Excess water won't affect the eggs, and dirt or anything in the substrate won't cause molds on the eggs.
Using an egg tray gives us many choices of incubation media to choose from. You can still use the commonly used media like perlite and vermiculite.
Soooo let me share my incubation setup and my experience with it. I've been using Water Crystals / Orbeez as incubation media for at least 5 seasons (5yrs+)
Water crystals are almost 100% water so the temperature inside the tray will be much more stable compared to the old school medias (perlite/vermiculite)
More water = Stable temperature
Having a stable temperature will prevent deformities and better hatch rate
My hatch rate is almost 100% using an incubator and room temp (Phπ΅π )
