Hello! 👋
I’m Luna and it’s my last shot of 4in1 vaccine! 🫶

What is 4in1 vaccine?

The 4-in-1 vaccine for cat, commonly known as FVRCCP or FVRCP, provides protection against four serious, potentially fatal diseases:

Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (FHV-1): A serious upper respiratory tract infection.
Feline Calicivirus (FCV): Leads to respiratory illness and oral lesions.
Feline Panleukopenia (FPLV): A highly contagious and often fatal form of distemper that attacks blood cells.
Chlamydia psittaci: Primarily causes eye infections (conjunctivitis) and can also affect the respiratory system.

A friendly reminder: have your pets checked regularly and keep their vaccinations up to date. 🐾

SPAY AND NEUTER

Spaying and neutering are common procedures that prevent pets from having babies. Spaying is done in female pets by removing the ovaries and uterus, while neutering is done in male pets by removing the testicles. These procedures help control pet overpopulation, reduce the number of animals in shelters, improve behavior like roaming and aggression, and lower the risk of certain diseases and cancers.

Sacred Paws Veterinary Clinic and Wellness Center offers Low Cost Kapon(Spay/Neuter) every Thursday.

Chippy, 13yo intact female

Chippy was presented to the clinic with the chief complaint of vaginal bleeding. Upon assessment, the abdomen was distended and vaginal discharge was observed. Laboratory examinations, including CBC, blood chemistry, ultrasound, and radiographs, confirmed our suspicion of pyometra.

What is Pyometra?

Pyometra is a serious, life-threatening uterine infection that occurs in unspayed female dogs and cats, most commonly after a heat cycle.

Pyometra has two types: open pyometra, where the cervix is open allowing foul-smelling pus to discharge from the v***a and generally has a better prognosis if treated early; and closed pyometra, where the cervix is closed, no vaginal discharge is seen, and pus accumulates within the uterus, increasing the risk of uterine rupture and sepsis, making it the more dangerous form.

Common clinical signs of pyometra include lethargy and depression, loss of appetite, increased thirst and urination, fever or sometimes low body temperature, vomiting or diarrhea, abdominal enlargement, and vaginal discharge in cases of open pyometra.

Have your pets checked up regularly!

Chippy is now recovering from surgery. See you on your follow up visits! Get well soon Chippy! 🫶❤️

Cystolithiasis (Urinary Bladder Stones)

Bladder stones in dogs are hard mineral deposits in the bladder that can cause pain, straining, frequent urination, blood in the urine, and abdominal discomfort. Some stones can be dissolved with a special diet, while larger or obstructive stones often require surgery. A dog that cannot urinate is in a life-threatening emergency and needs immediate veterinary care.

Symptoms:
• Straining or painful urination
• Frequent, small amounts of urine
• Blood in urine
• Change in urine color or smell
• Abdominal discomfort
• Vomiting or lethargy (specially in cases of urinary blockage)

Causes:
• Mineral imbalance
• Urinary tract infection
• Diet high in certain minerals
• Genetic predisposition
• Underlying conditions like kidney disease
• Low water intake

Diagnosis:
• Urinalysis and blood tests
• Imaging such as X-ray or ultrasound

Treatment:
• Surgical removal for large or obstructive stones
• Catheterization
• Prescription diet for dissolvable stones and crystals
• Antibiotics if due to infection

Consult your vet! ✨

Feline scabies

What is Feline scabies?
Feline scabies, also called Notoedric mange, is a highly contagious skin disease in cats caused by the mite Notoedres cati.

The microscopic mites burrow into the skin, causing intense itching that leads to severe scratching, hair loss, red and inflamed skin, and the formation of thick crusts, especially around the ears, face, and neck. In advanced cases, the condition can spread to the entire body.

If your pet shows these symptoms, bring them to the nearest veterinarian for proper diagnosis and treatment. This condition can also be prevented with regular spot-on preventives for cats.

PET SAFETY REMINDER
Typhoon season can be challenging, but our pets depend on us for their safety.

✔️Keep them indoors where they’ll stay warm and dry.
✔️Prepare enough food, water, and essential supplies in advance.
✔️If evacuation becomes necessary, never leave them behind—plan for them as part of your family.

We’ve weathered many storms before, and together, we’ll make it through this one too. Stay safe, everyone! 🐾
