Here’s a photo of Pancho’s wound repair after treatment, presented in black and white for sensitive viewers.
Pancho, a 4-year-old intact male dog, was brought in after a dog fight causing multiple bite wounds on the neck area. Exam revealed a 3–4 cm deep laceration, smaller puncture wounds, abrasions, swelling, and mild bleeding. Under sedation, the wounds were shaved, cleaned, flushed, and debrided. Deep layers were closed with absorbable sutures, and the skin was sutured with non-absorbable material, some punctures were left open for drainage. Pancho was started on antibiotics and pain relief, and an e-collar was applied. The owner was advised to monitor for swelling or discharge and return in 3–5 days for a check-up, with suture removal in 10–14 days. Prognosis is good with proper care. To help avoid future dog fights, always supervise dogs when they interact, watch for signs of tension or aggression, avoid high-value toys or food in group settings, and separate dogs calmly if conflicts arise.
