🚨 FLUTD IN CATS: WHEN “HIRAP UMIHI” BECOMES AN EMERGENCY 🚨

Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) is a common urinary problem in cats. One of the most dangerous complications is urinary blockage, especially in male cats.

A blocked cat is an emergency. 🚨
If your cat is repeatedly going to the litter box, straining to urinate, crying, licking the ge***al area, passing only a few drops—or not producing urine at all, do not wait. A completely blocked cat can rapidly develop severe electrolyte abnormalities, kidney problems, and potentially die.

🐱 BLOCKED CATS MAY NEED CATHETERIZATION

When there is a complete obstruction, the veterinarian may need to sedate or anesthetize the patient and place a urinary catheter to relieve the blockage and restore urine flow. IV fluids, blood tests, pain control, and close monitoring may also be necessary.

💧 WATER IS LIFE!

One of the simplest ways to help prevent urinary problems is to encourage your cat to drink more water.

✔️ Provide fresh, clean water at all times
✔️ Consider using a water fountain if your cat prefers moving water
✔️ Wet food can help increase daily water intake
✔️ Keep litter boxes clean and easily accessible

🍽️ DIET MATTERS

Choose a good-quality, nutritionally balanced cat food appropriate for your cat’s age and health. For cats with a history of urinary crystals, stones, or blockage, your veterinarian may recommend a specific urinary therapeutic diet.

Avoid excessive treats, table food, and inappropriate foods that can contribute to an unbalanced diet or poor water intake. Treats should remain a small part of your cat’s daily intake.

Remember: prevention is not only about food. Maintaining a healthy body weight, reducing stress, encouraging water intake, and keeping a clean litter box are all important.

❤️ If your cat cannot urinate, don’t wait until tomorrow.

A cat that is straining in the litter box may not simply be constipated—it could be urinary obstruction, and every hour matters.

When in doubt, have your cat checked by a veterinarian immediately. 🐾

This is Yin, a 1-month-old kitten who succumbed to severe gastrointestinal parasite infestation. At this young age, kittens are highly susceptible to heavy worm burden, often acquired from the mother.

Severe infestation can lead to intestinal blockage, anemia, dehydration, and rapid decline, which may become fatal if not addressed early.
