Keeping a clean litter box for your cat can be challenging at times. Most of the cats are picky about where they do their business, so if their litter box is not right or clean it's likely that they'll urinate outside of the box.
Here are few tips to avoid your cats from urinating outside of the box: .
Scoop your cat's litter daily. It's recommended that you scoop your cat's litter box at least daily, and maybe even more if you can.
Change your cat's litter completely when it's time. There are several types of cat litter available for purchase and you should follow the recommendations on the product that you are using. For instance, clumping litter need to change completely once a month while for Non-clumping litter should be changed completely 1-2 times a week.
Clean your cat's box regularly. Wash with water and soap each time when changing out the litter. Avoid using harsh chemicals like bleach, as they may deter your cat from using the box, instead go for mild soap and dry the box out before placing new clumping litter.
Place litter boxes in low traffic, private areas. Cats like privacy too just like us. Thus, put the litter boxes in places that are quiet and secluded. No one wants to be startled when they are trying to potty.
Get a new litter box at least once a year. Plastic cat litter boxes don't last forever. Cats scratch the plastic leaving grooves in the box. These grooves trap odors and germs so it's best to get a new box every once in a while.
By following these clean litter box tips, you should be able to maintain a healthy cat litter box routine in your home. If your cat is still urinating outside of their litter box, consult your veterinarian to ensure they don't have any medical condition.
