A Heartbreaking Story I saw on the news and social media.. and it broke me....
It was raining hard last July 19, 2025 in Baguio. Storm Crising had brought strong winds and heavy rain.
A huge boulder broke loose from the mountain in Camp 7, Kennon Road. It rolled down and crushed a red car and a house.
The family who lived there is safe (according to the owner, they were just in another house beside the garage).
But their dog, a beautiful, stocky exotic bully, was still there.
He was inside a cage. He had no way to escape. And when the boulder hit, it landed right where he was.
He didn’t make it.
No people were hurt that day. But someone’s dog, someone’s loyal, loving pet, a best friend... didn’t survive.
He probably didn’t understand what was happening 🥺
This story broke me.
And I hope it reminds all of us:
In times of disaster, don’t leave your dogs behind. But if you really have no choice, then at least... PLEASE DON’T TIE or CAGE THEM.
They can’t save themselves, even if they want to. Let them have a chance to run, to survive.
To the family who owned this dog...
I know you didn’t want this to happen. I’m sure your hearts are hurting too. Please don’t take this as blame. This is simply a reminder, for all of us, of how fragile life is, and how much our pets depend on us.
As they say in Lilo & Stitch…
“ʻOhana means family. Family means no one gets left behind… or forgotten.”
We honor this brave furbaby.
He gave his best.
Run free now, angel. 🌈🐾
You were loyal. You were loved. And you mattered.

For those who have been asking...
Yes, the dog seen in the viral CCTV footage thankfully survived. Her name is Moana. She was rescued and is now safe.
However, it’s also true that the family had another dog, an exotic bully, who was not visible in the video. Tragically, he was caught in the path of the boulder and did not survive.
The dog’s owner personally messaged me to help clarify what really happened. They are heartbroken over the loss and deeply affected by what took place. It was never something they wanted... they are grieving, too.
We share this not to cast blame, but to honor the life of a beloved pet who stayed behind and didn’t make it...
and to gently remind others:
In times of disaster, please include your animals in your plans. If you truly can’t bring them, please do not tie or cage them. Give them a chance to survive.
Their loyalty deserves our protection. 🐾

The dog’s owner personally messaged me to clarify what really happened, and I want to share part of that here, with permission and with respect:
