If your dog is having a reverse sneeze episode, try these steps:During the episode

1. Stay calm – your dog can pick up on your anxiety.
2. Gently massage the throat to encourage swallowing.
3. Lightly cover the nostrils for 1–2 seconds (do not block them for long). This often triggers a swallow and stops the episode.
4. Speak softly and pet your dog to help it relax.
5. Offer a small amount of water once the episode has ended.
