Thank you so much to Zoetis, and Dr. Paul for that very timely and evidence-based lecture!

Canine Heartworm treatment has been different for the Philippine veterinary community since last year 2025 as the adulticide drug which directly acts on the adult heartworm is no longer readily available in the country. 😟 (We still hope this changes in the near future!)

It was definitely good guidance last night for us in selecting the fitting program for slow-kill treatment for your dogs, because yes something can still be done despite the unavailability of melarsomine! Please don’t hesitate to discuss with your vets.

💡 Reminder 💡
Heartworm is hard to completely eliminate because it is passed via mosquito bites! On top of the risk for Human Dengue disease, this most certainly adds to the importance of anti-mosquito home practices. ❤️

Everyday is special, but sometimes it becomes just a little extra special!

We wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JULIE! 💝🥳

She’s our soft-voiced and quiet vet tech you don’t get to see much - because of all the 🩸 💩 🕷️ samples 👀 🔬.

Help us make vet tech Julie smile a little brighter. 🤗

In photos: The xray, the object removed, and the source of the ingested foreign body.

We decided to share this case and incident in the hopes of helping you prevent it from happening to yours.

Summary: One of our confined feline patients swallowed the tip of the pill administration gun. The 3kg cat swallowed an almost 2-inch long, 1cm wide tip while being given meds at the clinic. 😰😨

We cannot begin to describe the fear and concern we felt…

You dear clients will have noticed that we have been regularly using pill guns with our feline patients - and have never had any issues. We already know of stories such as this hence our choice to use only tough and high quality brands.

But this pill applicator still broke. 💔

Additional info: Some patients can pass foreign objects naturally. This case though, after more than 24 hours passed by, walking the patient to naturally stimulate peristalsis, and attempts to increase f***l volume (and 2 rounds of 💩 without the tip in it), the xray revealed that the tip was still in the stomach. This xray was done more than 24 hours from the incident.

We are however grateful to share that this incident was safely and successfully solved - the object was stuck in the patient’s stomach and was surgically removed. The good boy didn’t even seem to have any idea that his case was a huge horror to us. 🥺❤️‍🩹

So dear fellow practitioners and pet owners, do check your pill applicators please! Discard these once showing signs of wear and tear. ‼️

(Many thanks to our patient’s family who calmly and respectfully handled this incident with the team. Thank you so much! 🙏🏻)

Today was a little bit busy.. Thank you everyone for your patience and understanding! 🙏🏻

Meanwhile, we’d also like to promote these NEAR EXPIRY (on August 6, 2026) Royal Canin Feline Urinary S/O 3.5 kg bags available at HALF PRICE - until supplies last!

🙏🏻 We cannot recommend this to patients who have renal conditions or who have acidic urine. Please discuss with your veterinarian first if this will be a good choice for your cats.

💡 The S/O label means that the formulation helps dissolve urinary struvite and oxalate crystals and stones, together with appropriate medication and lifestyle.

Disclaimer: We got these as part of Royal Canin promotion program. These are in perfect condition - just approaching their expiry soon. ❤️

(Helloo to our models from right to left: miss Julie, Shaira, and Charina! 👋🏼)

How to use the ‘feline inhaler device’?

It is best that the patient takes at least 10 breaths before removing the inhaler device after administering the puff.

One expansion/inhale and one contraction/exhale of the chest (at the ribs) is considered one count.

This kuya handled his first practice session like an expert! (Plus he knows his kuyas and ates at GSVC very well too hehe 🥹)

💡 Feline Asthma can be managed! 🙏🏻

Late post!

Doc Lourli recently attended the Updates and Insights in Small Animal Cardiology by Dr. Laurent Locquet last May 4 & 5. He is a cardiology specialist in Europe and his sharing is already helping the GSVC team today.

More and more furparents are ever more driven to give better quality of life when their dogs are diagnosed with heart conditions - old and young - and we see this. (Fur owner dedication and awareness has greatly changed in the past 10 years.)

GSVC may not have in-house xrays and echocardiography yet but we will do our best to keep learning so we can walk with you in their cardiology care journey.

(You will catch us requesting to have ECG done with your furfam these days ❤️)
