If you’re planning to breed crayfish, learning how to identify females is an important part of managing your stock.
A broader abdomen is one useful visual clue in mature crayfish because females need space to carry eggs. However, tail shape alone shouldn’t be your only way of determining s*x.
For more accurate identification, check the underside and reproductive structures, especially when selecting breeding stock.
The more you understand your crayfish, the better you can manage them.
