Raising Rabbits for Meat Production
- Rabbit are very fast- growing animals, their food converting rate is better than any other animal
- Rabbits are Prolific and large litter size, one doe can give birth to 5 to 12 kits on an average and can reach up to a record-high of 18 to 24kits
- Rabbit-farming requires less space and less labor compared to other animals
-Production costs are less compared to other farm animals.
-Rabbit meat is both delicious and nutritious and easily digestible
-Rabbits can be an excellent food source ( considered to be one of the best white meat available in the market)
-Domestic rabbit meat is white,mild flavored and low in moisture
- Lower in calories and fat compared to any common meat and almost cholesterol-free therefore good for heart and cancer patients as well as people with other medical conditions.
-Rabbit meat has a high percentage of easily digestible protein.
- The Sodium ( Na) content is comparatively less than other meats
- The Calcium( Ca) and Phosphorus ( P) contents are higher compared to any other meat.
-The meat -to - one ratio is higher than a carcass of a chicken.
-The best breed stocks are California White and New Zealand ( White, Black, Red, and Checkered) because of their optimum meat -to bone ratio.
- Followed by Chinchilla, Palomino, Sable, Satin, Silver Fox and even Champagne D' Argents and Flemish Giant but because of higher acquisition costs, the latter are not commonly used.
- There are no religious limitations in eating rabbit meat and considered Halal.
- Rabbit farming is easy to manage that even women, young ones or the elderly can handle.
-Rabbit- farming is highly profitable and you can get back you investment in a short period of time.
-Rabbit business is not seasonal because rabbit productivity is the same all-year round.
- Rabbit manure can be used as organic fertilizer and is considered a cold manure because it doesn't need composting before it can be used.
- Rabbit Urine can be processed to become a bio- pesticide.
-Rabbit skin can be processed as leather ( Without fur) or pelts with fur on.
