Mocher’s Success Story against Canine Heartworm

From Struggle to Strength: Mocher the Aspin is NOW Canine Heartworm-Free! 💪🐾 After a year of slow kill treatment and love, this brave dog has conquered heartworm and is ready for a healthy, happy future!

Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal condition caused by parasitic worms transmitted through mosquito bites. These worms live in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels of affected dogs, causing lasting damage to vital organs.

🦟 How It Spreads:
A single bite from an infected mosquito is enough to transmit heartworm larvae to your dog. Once inside, the worms mature and multiply—often unnoticed until severe symptoms appear.

⚠️ Why It’s Dangerous:
If left untreated, heartworm can lead to:
• Heart failure
• Lung disease
• Organ damage
• Death

💡 Prevention Is Key:
The good news? Heartworm disease is completely preventable. Monthly preventives—whether oral, topical, or injectable—can protect your dog year-round.

🩺 Annual Testing Is Essential:
Even if your dog is on prevention, yearly testing ensures they remain protected and catches any early infection.

❤️ Protect Their Heart. Protect Their Life.
Talk to your vet today about heartworm prevention and testing—it’s one of the simplest ways to safeguard your dog’s health.

Mallows's Success Story against Anaplasmosis, Babesiosis and Ehrlichiosis : A Wake-Up Call for Pet Owners

Mallows, a vibrant one-year-old Golden Retriever, arrived at VetCare Animal Clinic with diarrhea. What started as a seemingly minor issue quickly escalated. Despite being up-to-date on vaccinations and deworming, a single missed anti-tick preventative opened the door for anaplasmosis, babesiosis, and ehrlichiosis.

Blood tests revealed alarmingly low platelets and high white blood cells. The diagnosis was devastating, but Mallows's fur-parents acted swiftly, opting for a combined oral and injectable treatment plan. The journey wasn't easy – Mallows's photos from her blood draws show her funny, yet determined spirit.

After a month of treatment, the news was incredible: Mallows was completely parasite-free! This happy ending underscores the critical importance of preventative care. Regular tick and flea prevention, combined with routine vet checkups, can save your pet from suffering.

Don't wait until it's too late. Learn from Mallows's experience. Schedule your pet's health check-up at VetCare Animal Clinic today and let's keep our furry friends healthy and happy.

Way to go, Mallows! 💕

Sarcoptic Mange (Scabies) in Dogs!

Sarcoptic mange, commonly known as scabies, is a highly contagious skin disease in dogs caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei mite. These tiny mites burrow into your dog's skin, causing intense itching, which leads to scratching, scabbing, hair loss, and potentially secondary skin infections. The constant itching can make your dog incredibly uncomfortable and restless. Importantly, Sarcoptes scabiei can also affect humans, though the human form of the disease is usually less severe and self-limiting. We recently saw a patient with significant hair loss due to scabies; we'll be sharing before-and-after photos to showcase his transformation as he recovers!

Symptoms in Dogs to Watch For:

- Intense Itching: This is the most prominent symptom. Your dog may scratch excessively, leading to irritated skin.

- Red, Raised Skin Lesions: These often appear on the elbows, belly, ears, and legs.

- Hair Loss: Excessive scratching can result in patches of hair loss.
- Scabs and Crusts: These form as a result of the skin's inflammation and scratching.

- Skin Thickening: In severe cases, the skin may thicken.

What to Do If You Suspect Scabies in Your Dog:

1. Veterinary Consultation: This is crucial! A veterinarian can accurately diagnose scabies through skin scrapings and prescribe the appropriate treatment. Do not attempt to self-treat.

2. Isolate Your Dog: To prevent the spread of scabies to other pets in your household, isolate your affected dog.

3. Thorough Cleaning: Clean your dog's bedding, toys, and any areas where they frequently spend time. Consider using a veterinary-approved disinfectant.

Treatment for Dogs:

Treatment typically involves medicated dips, shampoos, or oral medications prescribed by your veterinarian. The duration of treatment will depend on the severity of the infestation. Consistent treatment is essential to eliminate the mites and prevent re-infestation.

- Regular Grooming: Regular brushing helps detect early signs of skin problems.

Remember, early detection and prompt veterinary and medical care are key to effectively treating sarcoptic mange and ensuring your dog's and your family's comfort and well-being. Don't hesitate to contact us- VetCare Animal Clinic - Legazpi if you have any concerns. Stay tuned for our patient's amazing glow-up! ✨
