A month ago, an 8-year-old shih tzu came in for a consultation with lethargy and a decreased appetite. CBC revealed a low platelet count. PCR testing confirmed an Ehrlichia canis infection, a tricky blood parasite that causes weaknes, loss of appetite, and severe anemia if not treated promptly. After treatment with antibiotics, hematenics, and immunostimulants, her follow-up PCR test is now negative โ€” sheโ€™s getting healthier every day!๐Ÿถ

PCR testing is especially important because it detects infections earlier and more accurately, allowing us to treat sooner and better.๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿ“ˆ
