💦How to keep your furbabies hydrated during this hot weather 💦
Now that we have begun experiencing the dreaded summer heat, it seems like as good of a time as any to pass along a few tips on keeping your pets hydrated.
1. Get a water fountain designed for pets. This has been a game changer for my cats. Nowadays, they are readily available most places. I’ve bought two at completely different price points from Amazon and they love both equally. Keep in mind that plastic is known to cause acne! Regular cleaning can help prevent this.
2. Make frozen treats for your dog or cat. The options are truly unlimited here. I might just have to make a post specifically dedicated to this. Whatever you decide to use, just add water😉. My favorites include pumpkin, pet-safe broth powder, whatever fruit I have on hand, and occasionally some training treats. Use whatever you have on hand. If you want to keep them occupied longer, freeze their kibble in a bowl of water.
3. Take a bowl and water with you everywhere when you have your dog outside of the house. There are plenty of collapsible bowl options that can clip onto your backpack/Fanny pack/leash. There are also water bottles that double as bowls!
4. Change up the container if you notice them not drinking as much water. I have clients who use mason jars for their cats and they drink so much water out of them. Use a different size bowl. Move the bowl to a new location.
5. Keep. Their. Bowls. Clean. I wouldn’t want to drink out of a bowl that has a weird film on it either🤪. You know what I’m talking about. Take a little bit of time out of your schedule to clean their bowls. It can make such a difference in their water intake.
6. Where’s the flavor??? If you are still struggling to encourage them to drink water, try adding something that tastes good to the bowl such as pet-safe broth or pet-safe fruits.
