ADOPTION IS AN OPTION

In celebration of Iloilo City's 87th Charter Day this August, the Office of the City Veterinarian, in collaboration with Robinsons Jaro, will be holding DOG ADOPTION ON-THE-SPOT on August 24, 2024, from 1:00 PM onwards at Robinsons Jaro Activity Center.

Starting next week, photos of adoptable dogs will be posted throughout the mall, and on August 24, you may take them and give them a fur-ever home.

All dogs available for adoption are neutered and vaccinated against rabies. They have been waiting for new families to give them a second chance. Give them life, and they'll give you a life of love.

With this year's theme of "RISE Iloilo City: Remarkable Ilonggos Sustaining Excellence at 87", we are committed to providing a healthy environment for all residents of our beloved city, inclusive of humans and animals.

Koi vs Carp

Are Kois the same with Carps?

Many believed that the words "carp" and "koi" are interchangeable, which probably led to this confusion. Here's a brief history of Kois to know the difference between the two.

The koi we know today is believed to be a descendent of the common carp. For centuries, Asian farmers had been putting carp in with their rice paddies in order to sell both rice and fish. In nature, the carp is found in plain brown and green colors but around the 17th century Japanese carp farmers discovered that a few had developed orange and white spots. Through selective breeding, these farmers developed the koi fish we know today. Soon, people from all over Japan were breeding koi to come up with new, colorful patterns.

To sum it up. . All Kois are Carps but not all Carps are Kois. :)

Today, there are a lot of vareties of Kois that are being produced and collected by our Koi hobbyists. Here's a list of some of them . .

Dog of the Week
The Beagle is a happy, inquisitive, short haired hound who makes a great family companion, an eager hunter in the field — or both!

The Beagle is a breed of small to medium-sized dog. A member of the hound group, it is similar in appearance to the foxhound, but smaller with shorter legs and longer, softer ears. Beagles are scent hounds, developed primarily for tracking hare, rabbit, deer, and other small game. They have a great sense of smell and tracking instinct that sees them employed as detection dogs for prohibited agricultural imports and foodstuffs in quarantine around the world. Beagles are intelligent but single-minded, and popular pets because of their size, even temper, and lack of inherited health problems.
