Parasites may be small, but their impact on animal health is anything but.

This World Parasite Awareness Day, let’s revisit the essentials: 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. From ectoparasites to endoparasites, each plays a role in disease transmission, productivity loss, and animal welfare concerns.

• 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 - Direct contact, vectors (e.g., ticks, mosquitoes), contaminated food, water, or soil
• 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲𝘀 - Ectoparasites (fleas, ticks, mites) vs. Endoparasites (nematodes, cestodes, protozoa)
• 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 - Weight loss, anemia, diarrhea, pruritus, poor growth, and reduced productivity
• 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀 - Fecalysis, blood smears, skin scrapings, and serological tests
• 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 - Regular deworming, proper sanitation, vector control, and good husbandry practices
• 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 - Many parasites are zoonotic-protecting animals also protects humans

Every loud bang sends dogs and cats into panic—trembling, hiding, or running for tjeir lives.

For strays and rescued animals who have already known fear and abandonment, this night feels like danger all over again.

They don’t understand the celebration.

They only feel the fear.
