Every dog reacts differently to thunderstorms.
Some hide under the bed. Some pace around the house. Others shake, pant, or refuse to eat until the storm passes.
If you've ever felt helpless watching your dog go through that, you're not alone.
One of the biggest mistakes people make is thinking their dog is just "acting up." In reality, they're responding to something they can't understand or control.
The best thing we can do is make them feel safe.
Give them a quiet space, let them hide if they want to, stay calm, and don't force interactions. If they're still willing to eat, a long-lasting chew or treat can also help redirect some of that nervous energy and give them something familiar to focus on.
And if your dog's anxiety is becoming more severe or affecting their quality of life, don't hesitate to talk to your veterinarian. There's no shame in asking for help.
Save this post before the next storm rolls in.. you'll be glad you did. 🌩️
