Special Patient Feature: Loki 🐾

Say hello to Loki, a 6-year-old Shih Tzu who will always have a special place in our hearts — he was our very first patient on the day we opened Paws, Beaks & Hooves Veterinary Clinic. 💙

Last Thursday, Loki came in because his furparents were concerned he might have swallowed a chicken bone. An x-ray confirmed their suspicion — but what we didn’t expect was a blessing in disguise: the x-ray also revealed the presence of uroliths (bladder stones).

Our vet immediately addressed the swallowed bone and advised further monitoring.

This morning, Loki returned to the clinic as he became lethargic and lost his appetite. We performed a CBC Check, Blood Chemistry, and repeat x-ray to assess his condition. Based on the results, he’s now started on medication and is scheduled for non-surgical interventions to help remove the uroliths safely.

We’re grateful to Loki’s furparents for their trust, and we’re sending this brave boy lots of love and healing energy as he begins treatment. 🐶💪💕

This sweet furbaby came in showing signs of hematuria (blood in the urine), lethargy, and loss of appetite. Upon assessment, we found that vaccinations, deworming, and tick prevention were not up to date—increasing the risk for tick-borne diseases.

🧪 A CBC and rapid antibody test revealed a positive result for Ehrlichia, a condition caused by tick bites that can lead to thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) and other complications. Good thing her furparents brought her to the clinic.

💊 Our veterinary team started the furbaby on antibiotics, platelet-supportive supplements, NexGard for tick control, and additional supportive care. A recheck is scheduled after 5 days to monitor improvement.

🙏 Praying for a smooth and speedy recovery.

Let this be a reminder to all pet parents: Keeping your pet’s vaccines and parasite preventives updated is essential in protecting them from preventable illnesses.
