Molly, an 8-year-old intact dog, was brought to a Beast Friend clinic after suddenly vomiting when drinking water and developing an increased respiratory rate.
During her examination, Molly was febrile, tachycardic, mildly dehydrated, and experiencing abdominal discomfort. Although no vaginal discharge was observed, an abdominal ultrasound revealed an enlarged, fluid-filled uterus. Together with her blood test results, these findings led to a diagnosis of closed-type pyometra, a serious uterine infection.
Molly required an ovariohysterectomy, or surgical removal of the uterus and ovaries. However, her laboratory findings also showed that she needed careful monitoring and stabilization. After one week of continued observation and care, Molly was discharged and is now well on her way to recovery.
