Timeline of the FIVE recorded Chimera individuals in American Cocker Spaniel History.

In 1974, in Cincinnati, Ohio, CRIGMAR'S CRAZY QUILT was whelped. He was bred by Ms. Mary Crigler and later owned and shown by Mr. Tom O'neal of Dreamridge Cockers. Back then, he was registered as Buff with Black markings and was thought of as a result of a mutation of the Tan-point gene. He won his class as a puppy under Judge Elaine Mathis of LaMar Cockers at an American Spaniel Club show.

A couple of years later, Mr. Don Harrison, a Cocker Geneticist, searched the world for a female dog exhibiting the same "mutation" and found one in Sweden. No records on the name nor pictures of this dog was ever recorded. She was then bred to CRIG-MAR'S CRAZY QUILT and produced all normal colored offsprings.

Two decades later, in the late 90's, a female from Slovakia named Dacha, was recorded to exist and became the talk of the town of the Cocker World back then.

In March 8, 2004, thirty years after the birth of CRIG-MAR'S CRAZY QUILT, a female named CH. KING PHILIP'S CHANCE HAPNIN was whelped at King Philip Kennels. It was during this time that words of the term "Chimerism" was attached to the phenomenon that everyone believed to be a mutation of the Tan-point genes. An individual with Chimerism has a very rare condition wherein a single entity contains two different sets of DNA resulting from a fusion of two embryos, or simply called "twin absorption". In the cases of these dogs, it was a Buff and a Black embryo. Chance was later shown and is the first of this color to finish its Championship title. She was later bred but only produced normal colored offsprings.

In 2024, a male was born in China and named SHUANG SHEN. He is owned by Cocker Spaniel Breeder and Master Groomer Mr. Zhang Bin. The news of the existence of the fifth dog, SHUANG SHEN, is truly remarkable! He spends his days as a model for correct American Cocker Spaniel grooming at Grooming Competitions in China.

So far, these are the five recorded Chimera individuals in American Cocker Spaniel History.

The fifth recorded American Cocker Spaniel exhibiting Chimerism. His name is SHANG SHEN and is owned by Mr. Zhang Bin of China. He was whelped in 2024.

Just recieved news from my Malaysian Groomer friend, Ms. Gracienna Foo, of the existence of another Chimera American Cocker Spaniel. The dog's name is SHANG SHEN (ROC), whelped in 2024 and is owned by American Cocker Spaniel Breeder and Master Groomer, Mr. Zhang Bin of China.
The last Chimera recorded in Cocker history was CH. KING PHILIP'S CHANCE HAPNIN aka CHANCE, who was whelped in 2004 at our kennel. SHANG SHEN is the fifth recorded American Cocker Spaniel Chimera case so far but only the fourth with actual pictures and videos.
