"PREVENTION is better than CURE "
EPISTAXIS (or NOSE BLEEDING) is a common presenting sign in a dog with BLOOD PARASITISM. Some of us may think it could be only due to the EXTREME HEAT CONDITION (it could be an additional factor), but NOT ALL the time.
Most of our patients presented with nose bleeding were positive with Blood parasite (Ehrlichia, Babesia, Anaplasma). It is caused and transmitted by TICKS (“garapata”).
So if your dogs have exposure to ticks, experienced nose bleeding, fever, weakness, etc. please bring your dog asap to the vet. Some of these dogs with blood parasitism might require blood transfusion due to severe anemia. Don’t wait until it’s too late.
A friendly reminder from your CLVC family.
