𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲: 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝘆𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 5 𝘆𝗿 𝗼𝗹𝗱, 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵.

Description:
A 5 yr old intact bitch was referred to the clinic for Ultrasound. UTZ showed distented and anechoic uterus. During physical examination vaginal discharge (blood with pus) was seen.
In additions, high number of WBC (63.57 K/μL) and Neutrophils (54.49 K/μL), low HCT (25.9%) and RBC (3.77 M/μL), normal PLT (208 K/μL) was detected in CBC results.
Pyometra was diagnosed.
Ovariohysterectomy was recommended as the primary treatment for Pyometra cases.

Pyometra is a common pathological condition in which enlargement of uterus with accumulation of pus in the uterine lumen occurs. This pathological condition affect middle aged to older female dogs and age at clinical presentation ranges from 6.4 to 9.5 years (Gibson et al., 2013). After estrus, a steady rise in progesterone is seen which causes increase in uterine wall thickening which may lead to cystic endometrial hyperplasia. Afterwards, due to this conducive environment for bacterial growth, the condition can steadily progress to pyometra. (Feldman and Nelson, 2004)

To prevent pyometra in dogs is to have them spayed before they have their first heat cycle. This is a safe procedure that also reduces the risk of uterine and ovarian cancer.
Spaying removes the uterus and ovaries, which prevents hormonal fluctuations that can lead to pyometra.

𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗘 : 𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗔𝗟 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗔𝗟 𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗔 𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗔𝗜𝗥

Dylan, a 5 year old intact Male shihtzu was brought to the clinic with a chief complaint of pain and swelling around the a**l area. The owner also observed the decrease in appetite. F***l and urine output are okay. Pinkish mucos membrane.

After performing a Diagnostic radiograph (X-RAY), a herniated Urinary Bladder was identified.

According to the history and clinical findings, the diagnosis of perineal hernia was established. The suggestion was to perform orchiectomy with the aim of surgical correction of the hernia.

After 1 week post-op, the patient came back for suture removal. Upon assessment of the incision site, it was observed that the area is not totally healed hence it was recommended to continue medication and to come back after five days.

𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗮 results from weakening and/or the inability of the pelvic diaphragm to support the re**al wall, promoting caudal displacement of abdominal or pelvic organs in the perineum. Intact male dogs aged between 7 and 10 years are the most affected, being rare in females. The main clinical signs are unilateral or bilateral swelling of the perineal region, associated or not with tenesmus, dysuria, urinary and/or f***l incontinence, anuria and pain during defecation. The diagnosis is based on clinical history, anamnesis, physical examination, and complementary tests such as radiography and ultrasound. (Nakaza, P.S., et.al)
