𝐈𝐂𝐘𝐌𝐈| 𝐀 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞—𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. 🦅
For the first time, PEF Biologist Tristan Senarillos and his team documented the complete nesting cycle of a South Philippine Hawk-Eagle in Leyte: from nest-building to the chick’s first flight.
This IUCN Globally “Endangered” Philippine endemic is one of the country’s rarest and least-studied raptors. Data from this nest can help scientists better understand its breeding biology, identify critical nesting habitats, improve population monitoring, and guide stronger protection of breeding pairs and their forests.
What we learn from this one nest could help shape the conservation of the species in the wild.
