That Bump Above the Eye Had a Name 👀

This dog was brought to AVCI because of a noticeable growth just above the eye.

After proper evaluation, the mass was diagnosed as a trichoblastoma, a type of skin tumor that may appear as a lump or bump on the skin.

Many trichoblastomas are benign, but they can still grow, become irritated, affect nearby areas, or cause concern especially when located close to sensitive structures like the eyes.

Because of its location, careful assessment and proper surgical planning were important.

The good news: the mass was successfully removed, and our patient recovered well. 🐶💛

Not all lumps are the same. Some may look harmless at first, but it is always safer to have them checked, especially when they are near the eyes, mouth, paws, or private areas.

When Flea Treatment Takes an Unexpected Turn

This 5-year-old mama cat was brought to AVCI after suddenly becoming wobbly, twitchy, restless, and unusually aggressive.

Her signs were consistent with fipronil toxicity, possibly from accidental licking during self-grooming following the application of a topical tick and flea product.

Cats are expert groomers… sometimes too expert. 😿

She was admitted for decontamination, seizure control, supportive care, monitoring, and treatment of other health concerns.

Good news: her neurologic signs improved within 24 hours, and by day 4, she recovered and went home stable. 💛

After applying any tick and flea product, observe your pet closely. If they become wobbly, trembly, weak, restless, or “not themselves,” seek veterinary care right away.

When “Spayed” Still Had a Secret

This cat was brought to AVCI due to persistent vaginal discharge despite being previously spayed.

The previous surgery was done elsewhere using a different surgical approach. In this case, X-rays and ultrasound were performed, but the ultrasound gave the stronger clue: a suspected ovarian remnant.

Exploratory surgery later confirmed retained active reproductive tissue, which was removed together with the remaining enlarged uterine body.

Good news: our patient recovered well. 🐱💛

This case is shared for pet health education and as a reminder that even routine surgeries require careful assessment, proper technique, and follow-up care.

Not all post-spay concerns are immediately obvious. Early investigation can help identify problems before they become more serious.

As the Weather Changes, Pay Closer Attention.
Not Every Sign Should Be Dismissed as Seasonal.

Some pets don’t “just slow down” because of the weather.

A cough that keeps coming back.
Breathing that seems faster than usual.
Getting tired too easily.
Restlessness at night.
Less energy during walks or play.

These signs can be easy to overlook. But for some pets, they may be the body’s quiet way of saying that the heart needs attention.

Cardio concerns are not always dramatic at first. Sometimes, they begin with small changes that only a watchful furparent will notice.

Some eye problems can be easy to miss in the beginning.

The Hairball That Took Things Too Fur

Cats are famous for grooming like they have a beauty pageant to attend every day. But sometimes, all that swallowed hair does not pass smoothly.

This patient was brought to AVCI after days of persistent vomiting, weakness, dehydration, and difficulty standing. What seemed like a “hairball problem” turned out to be a serious hairball impaction, also called a trichobezoar.

The patient was first stabilized with IV fluids and medical support. When the condition progressed, surgery was performed to remove the impacted hairball from the intestine.

Thankfully, this kitty made a good recovery, became active again, and was defecating normally during follow-up. 🐾
