CANINE PARVOVIRUS: Deadly but Preventable 🐾

Parvovirus, or Parvo, is a highly contagious and life-threatening virus that affects dogs, especially unvaccinated puppies. It spreads through direct contact with infected dogs or contaminated surfaces like soil, food bowls, and even human hands or shoes. The virus is incredibly tough—it can survive in the environment for months!

⚠️ If your dog shows these signs, seek urgent veterinary care:

😔 Severe vomiting
😔 Bloody diarrhea with a strong foul odor
😔 Lethargy and weakness
😔 Loss of appetite
😔 Fever or low body temperature

Without treatment, Parvo has a high fatality rate. Puppies can decline rapidly within 48-72 hours.

HOW TO PREVENT PARVO:

❗ VACCINATION is key! Puppies should receive their core vaccines starting at 6-8 weeks old, with booster shots every few weeks until 16-20 weeks old. Annual boosters are recommended.
❗ Avoid exposing puppies to unknown dogs or public places (parks, streets, pet shops) until they are fully vaccinated.
❗Practice good hygiene – Disinfect areas where dogs stay, regularly clean food and water bowls, and wash your hands thoroughly after handling other dogs, especially those of unknown health status. If you've been in places where dogs gather (like vet clinics, grooming salons, or dog parks), change clothes and disinfect your shoes before interacting with your pet.
❗Quarantine sick dogs – If you have multiple pets, separate any dog showing symptoms.

MYTH vs FACT:

❌ Myth: Only stray dogs get Parvo.
✅ Fact: Any unvaccinated dog, even one living indoors, can get Parvo if exposed to the virus.

❌ Myth: Adult dogs don’t need Parvo vaccines.
✅ Fact: While puppies are most at risk, adult dogs should still receive booster shots to stay protected.

❌ Myth: If a puppy survives Parvo, they can never get it again.
✅ Fact: Surviving Parvo gives some immunity, but not lifelong protection. Vaccination is still needed.
