In 2019 when the bullfighting at the Pasungay Festival caught our attention, animal advocates rallied through social media. Our collective voices led to the suspension of the festival, until 2023.

The lives of our proud carabaos may not be at risk but is the unnecessary violence aligned with the ethical and moral values that we strive to uphold in our community. Furthermore, allegations of gambling have been cropping up!

While we respect traditions, the continuation of cruel animal fighting during the festivities, the pitting of animals to fight each other for spectacle, entertainment, and worse, gambling if true does not have a place in the progressive society that we claim to be.

We urge the LGU of San Joaquin, Iloilo to finally abide by the law. The Animal Welfare Act has been in place since 1998. The preservation of tradition that honors history and culture while fostering an innovative and compassionate community is far better than exploiting animals and espousing violence.

Join us in raising our voices against this act of animal cruelty.
