🐾 CANINE PARVOVIRUS (PARVO) IN DOGS 🐾

What is Parvovirus?

Canine Parvovirus (Parvo) is a highly contagious viral disease that primarily affects puppies and unvaccinated dogs. It attacks the intestines and immune system, causing severe illness that can become life-threatening without prompt treatment.

How Does It Spread?

Parvovirus spreads through contact with:
✔ Infected dogs
✔ Contaminated f***s (stool)
✔ Food and water bowls
✔ Kennels, cages, and bedding
✔ Shoes, clothing, and other contaminated objects

The virus is extremely hardy and can survive in the environment for months.

Common Signs of Parvo

⚠ Severe diarrhea (often bloody)
⚠ Vomiting
⚠ Loss of appetite
⚠ Lethargy or weakness
⚠ Fever or low body temperature
⚠ Rapid weight loss
⚠ Dehydration

Which Dogs Are Most at Risk?

🐶 Puppies between 6 weeks and 6 months old
🐶 Unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated dogs
🐶 Dogs with weakened immune systems

Why Is Early Treatment Important?

Parvovirus can cause severe dehydration, shock, and secondary infections. Immediate veterinary care greatly increases a dog’s chances of survival.

How Can You Protect Your Dog?

✔ Follow the recommended vaccination schedule
✔ Keep puppies away from unvaccinated dogs and contaminated areas
✔ Practice proper hygiene and disinfection
✔ Seek veterinary care immediately if symptoms appear
