A 9 year old mixed small breed dog was presented last April 23, 2025 for a general check-up because the owner just wanted to know if there’s any problem on the health of her dog. Laborstory tests indicates severe inflammation, infection, severe anemia and severely low platelet count. A 4-way test kit for blood parasite with CHW was conducted and tested positive for ehrlichiosis and canine heartworm infection. Upon physical examination on the body of its pet, pain was noted especially when he is being lifted. The client was advised to conduct xray to her pet. Results came out and confirmed a foreign body object on the part of its stomach (possible pyloric part). Blood transfusion was advised prior surgery (Gastrotomy).
The case was critical and guarded. Good thing God never abandoned this furbaby.
To all pet owners be mindful on the objects that they may be abale to swallow, we never know it may cause harm to our companion animals.
Kuddos tomthe owner of this dog for being so cooperative and very positive in everything.
After 2days from the surgery, the pet was able to stand on its own, and started eating soft diets.
God bless this furbaby, indeed God is good…

Praying for full recovery of Coco.
Coco was presented primarily with signs of vomiting, with the help of diagnostic laboratories, she was confirmed to be positive of Closed type pyometra (X-ray result) and Ehrlichiosis (4-way test kit)
These 2 diseases are life threatening cases but the serious one which is the pyometra if diagnosed late could really be fatal to our adult female unspayed dogs.
Coco, underwent Ovariohysterectomy procedure last April 21,2025. It was a hard and challenging case because aside of thinking for Coco’s welfare, the team was also concerned on the well-being of its owner and felt how she really loved her Baby. After 1 and a half hour the surgery was finished. With God’s providence, He was really with us especially to Coco.
To all pet owners, let’s be conscious of the well-being of our pets. They have life like ours. Let’s value them. Let’s help them to live longer. Let us be responsible of their existence.
To Coco’s furmom, we admire your perseverance to let Coco be treated. Indeed a costly one but you never hesitated. We are really moved on all your love and care for Coco. Thank you for the trust.
Here are sample pictures for awareness. Pyometra is not a simple and easy disease to treat. If you don’t plan on breeding them, then let them be spayed as early as possible. Talk to your trusted Vet.

Pyometra in Dogs: What is this?

It is a bacterial infection of the uterus due to hormonal changes in unspayed dogs. It is reported primarily in dogs more than 5 years old, and tends to occur 4 to 6 weeks after estrus. After estrus, the level of progesterone stays high to prepare the uterus for pregnancy by thickening its surface. If pregnancy does not occur for several cycles, the lining inside the uterus continues to thicken and cysts can form within the uterus. These cysts and accumulated uterine fluids provide an ideal environment for bacterial infection. Pyometra can occur due to administration of estrogen- or progesterone-based medications.

The signs are variable and include lethargy, poor appetite, increased thirst and urination, and vomiting. When the cervix is open, a discharge of pus, often containing blood, is present. When the cervix is closed there is no discharge and the large uterus may cause abdominal enlargement. Signs can progress rapidly to shock and death. The infection is diagnosed by physical examination, determination of the nature of the discharge, ultrasonography, x-rays, and laboratory and blood tests.

Removal of the ovaries and uterus ("spaying") is the recommended treatment in most cases. For younger animals that are not seriously ill and that will be bred in the future, antibiotics, intravenous fluids, and prostaglandin can be administered. However, medical treatments carry higher risk in dogs with a closed cervix because the infected uterus may burst. Animals should be re-examined 2 weeks after completion of medical treatment to ensure complete emptying of the discharge from the uterus. Dogs with a history of pyometra should be bred on every heat cycle after treatment, as pyometra will eventually recur. Affected dogs should be spayed as soon as their breeding life is over (Merck Veterinary Manual)
