When you ask a shelter to take in a dog, please consider many things.
If your promise is to support it monthly with let's say Php 1000.00, "saan aabot ang 1k mo?"
Divide that amount by 30 days and you have Php 33.33.
That amount may be able to buy half a kilo of rice, but what about the dogfood and meat or veggies to mix it with? What about the other miscellaneous expenses like the gas to cook the rice, shampoo, soap, medicines, vitamins and other essentials?
You may say it's just one dog, but that additional dog also means added responsibility, time, care, noise and cleaning chore.
So if you break your commitment, just think of the impact.
The shelter opened its door to the dog not because it is after your monetary support but because of compassion and pity.
So please support in as much as you can. And remember when you don't stay true to your word, not only have you abandoned your obligation, but you have also abandoned that dog.
And please don't get mad or disappointed if a shelter declines because the "real" shelters and rescuers know their limits and please don't pass the guilt of conscience.
"For we can't save all...for now."
