Sineguelas (Spondias purpurea) or Spanish Plum in English, is a native to Mexico and the western coast of Central and South America. It is brought over by the Spaniards in the Philippine archipelago some 400 years ago.
They are native to Central and South America and are part of the cashew family, Anacardiaceae.
It is a small/medium sized tropical fruit tree that can grow up to about 25 ft in height.
It starts off purplish or maroon-green and ripens to a vibrant yellow or dark red color. In the Philippines, sineguelas are in season from April to June, with the peak harvest period being in May.
