🩺 𝐕𝐅𝐂 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤: 𝐃𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚

Our patient, Wanda, was brought to the clinic with greenish vulvar discharge and was expecting around eight puppies based on a recent radiographic examination. She was able to deliver two puppies naturally but showed no further progress. Based on clinical history and physical examination, Wanda was showing signs of dystocia.

⚠️ Clinical Findings:
Ultrasonography revealed faint fetal heartbeats, indicating fetal distress and the need for immediate surgical intervention.

📍 Procedure:
An emergency cesarean section was performed, successfully delivering five viable puppies. Overall, Wanda gave birth to seven healthy puppies.

💡 Tips for Pet Parents:
• Regular veterinary consultation for pregnant furbabies is essential to understand pregnancy risks.
• If your pet experiences prolonged labor or abnormal discharges during delivery, seek veterinary assistance immediately.
• Prompt intervention can save both the mother and her puppies.

Our patient, Halo, was presented with skin lesions and noticeable itching. Microscopic examination of skin scrapings revealed the presence of adult 𝘚𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘰𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘴 sp. mites and eggs.

⚠️ Clinical Significance:
Sarcoptic mange, also known as scabies, is a highly contagious parasitic skin disease caused by 𝘚𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘰𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘦𝘪. These mites burrow into the skin, causing intense itching, redness, crusting, and hair loss. The condition commonly spreads through direct contact with infected animals and may also cause temporary irritation in humans.

📍 Treatment:
Halo was treated appropriately under veterinary supervision and prescribed topical medications and supplements to eliminate mites, relieve irritation, and promote skin healing. Close monitoring and environmental management were also advised to prevent recurrence.

✅ Outcome:
Halo is responding well to treatment and shows marked improvement in skin condition and comfort.

If your pet is showing signs of persistent itching or scaly skin, seek veterinary consultation promptly. Early veterinary care helps stop the worsening of skin conditions and ensures faster recovery.

🩺 VFC Case of the Week: Canine Parvovirus Infection

Meet Mitzy, a female puppy who was brought to our clinic due to inappetence, vomiting, and diarrhea and was diagnosed with Canine Parvovirus (CPV) infection.

⚠️ Clinical Significance:
CPV infection is a highly contagious and potentially fatal viral disease, commonly affecting puppies and unvaccinated dogs. The virus spreads through direct contact with infected dogs or contaminated f***s, surfaces, and objects. Without proper diagnosis and prompt treatment, the disease can quickly progress to severe dehydration, systemic illness, and even death.

📍 Treatment:
Mitzy was confined for 4 days, during which she received intensive supportive care and close monitoring by our veterinary team.

✅ Outcome:
With timely treatment, Mitzy has successfully recovered and is now back in good health.

💡 Tip for Pet Parents:
Prevention is always better than cure. The best protection against CPV is vaccination, which must be administered only by licensed veterinarians. Make sure your puppies and dogs complete their vaccine schedules on time and regularly to keep them safe from this life-threatening disease.

𝐕𝐅𝐂 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤: Unilateral Cryptorchidism

Our patient, Eggsy, was presented with only one palpable testicle in the sc***um. Upon physical exam, the right testicle was retained in the groin area, confirming unilateral cryptorchidism.

⚠️ Clinical Significance:
This condition can be hereditary and is usually observed in certain breeds such as Chichuahua, Poodle, Pomeeranian, Dachshund, Maltese, Boxer, Pekingese, English Bulldog, and Miniature Schnauzer. Retained testicles also carry a risk of testicular tumors and torsion, making surgical removal recommended to safeguard long-term health.

📍 Procedure: Bilateral orchiectomy

✅ Outcome:
Eggsy recovered smoothly from anesthesia, and the procedure was completed without complications. He is expected to do very well postoperatively.

Always consult your veterinarian regarding your furbaby's health, as timely assessment helps prevent serious complications.
