What is EHRLICHIOSIS?

Ehrlichiosis is a serious, tick-bourne bacterial disease that affects dogs. It can be life-threatening if left untreated.

SYMPTOMS:
• Fever
• Lethargy
• Loss of appetite
• Joint pain
• Bleeding, bruising, or petechiae (pinpoint bleeding)
• Anemia
• Thrombocytopenia
• Uveitis (eye abnormalities)
• Enlarged lymph nides
• Lameness or stiffness

TRANSMISSION:
• Dogs become infected after being bitten by an infected tick, primarily the brown dog tick.
• Dogs infected with ehrlichiosis do not directly transmit it to other dogs.

TREATMENT: Antibiotics, Steroid therapy, Fluid therapy, and Blood transfusions.
