Please don't let your groomers shave down a malamute. They should know better, but many don't. The double coat protects malamutes from the elements and the coat may not grow back properly if clipped.

Sunburn is a real threat. Our first malamute was a poorly bred rescue dog from a local puppy mill breeding for white woolies. Zeke had had to be shaved frequently for his weekly mitoban dip -- (treatment for demodectic mange). We had to keep him covered with a tee-shirt and sunscreen!

Keep your malamutes mat-free with regular line brushing and combing. Getting all that dead undercoat out will let the skin breathe and prevent hot spots/staph infections.
