UTZ DAY

When is the best time for pregnancy check?
• Confirming for pregnancy in small breed is best done at 3-4 weeks post-stud/mating for a clearer view in ultrasound.
• In smaller breeds, like Toy Poodle it is best to check them at 30 days post mating for easy finding and accurate view of the embryos
• If confirmed, the best day for x-ray is on her 60 days gestation for an accurate size, orientation and count of puppies.

QNY, 11 year old intact female shih tzu, brought today for her scheduled Mastectomy procedure but owners noticed that she is lethargic today and her urine has pus like discharges. After a thorough, physical check up and ultrasound, we found out that she has Pyometra.

Mastectomy was rescheduled to perform an immediate Panhysterectomy to treat first her pyometra infection and fortunately, she recovered well after the surgery.
