Julio was brought in unable to urinate, persistently straining, producing little to no urine, and already showing signs of progressive weight loss.
This is not just discomfort.
This is a medical emergency.
Diagnostics confirmed urinary bladder and urethral blockage, complicated by Acute Kidney Injury (AKI). When urine cannot pass, toxins rapidly build up in the bloodstream. Within hours, electrolytes become unstable. The heart, kidneys, and entire system are at risk.
Time is everything in cases like this.
Julio underwent emergency cystocentesis to immediately relieve bladder pressure, followed by a Scrotal Urethrostomy to create a new urinary opening and prevent recurrent life-threatening obstruction.
This case was managed by Dr. Arianne, with intensive monitoring and stabilization throughout the critical period.
Urinary obstruction in male dogs and cats is not something to “wait and see.”
If you notice:
• Straining without urine
• Frequent attempts to urinate
• Crying in pain
• Lethargy
Seek help immediately.
We thank Sir Andres Calderon for acting promptly and trusting us with Julio’s emergency care.
Because in urinary blockages , every minute counts.
